NCF Board of Trustees and National Executive Council Experience Lekki Conservation Centre

The Board of Trustees (BOT) and National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), led by the President of the BOT, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, and the Chair of the NEC, Hon. Justice (Mrs.) R.I.B. Adebiyi, visited the Foundation’s National Headquarters at Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) on 29 October 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity for members of the Foundation’s highest governance and executive bodies to experience the Centre firsthand, familiarise themselves with its facilities and conservation activities, and gain a closer understanding of its operations. It also provided a setting for their scheduled meeting, bringing institutional oversight and strategic engagement into the heart of one of NCF’s most prominent conservation facilities.

Accompanied by the Director-General, Dr Joseph Onoja, members embarked on a guided tour of the Centre, exploring its nature trails, boardwalk and forest environment. At the iconic canopy walkway, the tour guide provided insights into the facility and its significance as a nature-based attraction and conservation destination.

The tour continued to the tree house, where members were introduced to one of the Centre’s notable natural landmarks: an old locust bean tree standing at the heart of the forest.

They also explored the tree house before proceeding to the Family Park, where they inspected the recreational facilities and spaces used by visitors. The experience concluded at one of the park’s gazebos, following an engaging exploration of the Centre.

Throughout the tour, Dr Onoja provided additional information and clarifications on the Centre’s facilities, operations and conservation work. Members enjoyed the experience and offered observations and recommendations aimed at supporting further improvements to the Centre.

Following the tour, the BOT and NEC members convened for their meeting at the Family Park, where they deliberated on matters concerning the Foundation’s operations and institutional priorities, including preparations for the forthcoming Green Ball.

The engagement reflects NCF’s commitment to leadership that is actively connected to its work. By bringing governance and executive leadership into direct contact with its facilities, operations and conservation activities, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen institutional understanding, support informed oversight and reinforce the shared responsibility of advancing the Foundation’s mission.

For NCF, effective conservation leadership goes beyond setting strategic direction. It also means understanding the work on the ground, engaging with the people and facilities driving the mission, and continually identifying opportunities to do better for nature and people.
