ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF LEGAL AND POLICY OFFICER
We are seeking to recruit a competent, analytical, and results-driven Legal and Policy Officer with strong interest in environmental governance, legal frameworks, and policy advocacy. The ideal candidate should be passionate about conservation, possess excellent research and communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to influence policies that promote sustainable environmental management.
JOB OBJECTIVE:
To provide legal and policy support through research, policy analysis, and advocacy initiatives that strengthen environmental governance and advance nature conservation objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct legal and policy research on environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable development issues.
- Analyse laws, policies, and regulatory frameworks to identify opportunities for improved environmental governance.
- Support development of policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy recommendations.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with government agencies, policymakers, NGOs, and partners.
- Support advocacy campaigns and initiatives promoting environmental sustainability.
- Monitor legislative and policy developments and provide timely updates.
- Participate in stakeholder consultations, dialogues, and relevant forums.
- Prepare reports on policy developments, advocacy activities, and impact assessments.
- Collaborate with programme teams to ensure alignment between legal, policy, and project activities.
EXPERTISE & SKILLS:
Strong analytical and research skills with ability to interpret legal and policy documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, conservation, and public policy. Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and within a team while managing multiple tasks effectively.
QUALIFICATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Policy, Environmental Management, Political Science, or related field.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION:
Relevant professional certification or membership of legal or policy professional bodies will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in legal research, policy analysis, advocacy, or related field. Experience within NGO, public, or development sector is desirable. Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, policy review, and report writing is an advantage.
