About the NCF Alakija Art & Essay Competition
This annual competition is organized by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to honor the legacy of Ambassador Aduke Alakija, OFR, a pioneer in Nigeria’s nature conservation movement. Ambassador Alakija played a vital role in registering NCF as a charitable trust in 1982 and served on its Board of Trustees until her passing on March 27, 2016.
The competition is designed to inspire young minds to contribute their ideas and artistic talents toward building a better and more sustainable planet.

Art Competition Details
The Art Competition is open to students aged 5 – 17 years and is divided into the following school categories:
✅ Primary School
✅ Junior Secondary School
✅ Senior Secondary School
Art Submission Guidelines
- One entry per student (schools can submit up to five entries per category)
- Entries can be in color or black & white using any drawing, painting, or photography medium
- Accepted paper sizes:
- Minimum: 20 x 30 cm
- Maximum: 40 x 50 cm
- All artworks must be labeled at the back with:
- Competitor’s full name (surname in capitals)
- Age & sex
- School name & address
- Head Teacher/Principal’s endorsement

Essay Competition Details
The Essay Competition is open to students aged 12 – 17 years and is divided into the following school categories:
✅ Junior Secondary School
✅ Senior Secondary School
Essay Submission Guidelines
- One entry per student (schools can submit up to five entries per category)
- Word count: Between 500 – 750 words
- Each essay must include:
- Competitor’s full name (surname in capitals)
- Age & sex
- School name & address
- Principal’s endorsement
- Important Submission Rules:
- Handwritten essays must be legible
- AI-generated texts are strictly prohibited
- Students with disabilities needing assistance must provide an explanatory letter from their Principal
Non-compliance with these rules will result in disqualification.
How to Submit Your Entries
Students have the option to submit their entries either online or in hard copy (not both).
