Our approach is to work with policy makers at Global, National and State levels with a view to influencing policies that will protect the Nigerian environment and biodiversity.
We are involved in global consultations at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) post-2020 global biodiversity framework which is touted to be the most important document that will put nature on the path to recovery from 2020.
We support the Federal Government to integrate international environmental protocols into national policies. We also work to ensure environmental sustainability and development issues are effectively positioned within the context of National Development Strategies.
We are currently working with Federal and 3 States Governments to develop Forest Legislation which will take a critical look at the following:
- Effectiveness of laws and policies for the protection and conservation of forests.
- Adoption and enforcement of Federal laws on forest protection at State levels.
- Review of available legal frameworks to address potential impacts pf deforestation at both levels of government.
Platforms we employ in driving our policy & advocacy initiatives include:
Abuja Policy Office
Established with the mandate of lobbying government agencies to enact laws and policies that will promote nature conservation in Nigeria and protect the environment, the office work directly with the Federal Government and the National Assembly to influence National Policy.
To achieve this, we collaborate with international organisations, development agencies and other non-governmental organisations.
The Abuja Office equally drive policy advocacy with Northern State Governments in order to ensure that issues of environment are mainstreamed into administration. Consequently, we supported the Kaduna State Government in the development of policies to protect the environment of Kaduna State from degradation and other harmful impacts.
