The importance of water to the survival of humans and other creatures was stressed at the 2013 Walk for nature organized by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation in collaboration with the Lagos State Government in Lagos. Speaking at the annual event to create awareness on environment issues, titled "Water for Life" with the support of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Aluko & Oyebode, UPDC Plc., Fidelity Bank Plc., SAEPETROL, Sovereign Trust Insurance and Seven-Up Bottling Company, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola stated that water is vital for all known forms of life adding that without water, there would be no people , no animals, nor plants. "It is therefore clear that water can exit very well without people but people cannot exist without water".
