Job Description:


Job Title: Head, Fundraising

Reporting to: Director, Finance & Administration

Direct Reports: Membership and Fundraising Officers and other staff


  • To play a key leadership role in the day-to-day administration of the Fundraising Unit and provide a strong support for the attainment of the objectives of NCF
  • To play a key role in the development and implementation of NCF’s membership and fundraising activities and grow its membership base and secure funding for programme work and organisational core costs.
  • To be responsible for the strategy and delivery of successful fundraising activities
  • To build on the relationships and manage current partnerships with all stakeholders, including individual and corporate sponsors, members, NCF’s Board of Trustees and NEC, etc (for projects, in liaison with Project Managers).


Duties & Responsibilities:

1. To maintain and significantly expand NCF’s membership base

2. To build and maintain NCF’s membership database, filing system and records

3. To develop and deliver the strategic direction for fund-raising and to ensure sustainable growth in net income

4. To develop and deliver existing fundraising activities – identifying and maximizing opportunities to increase income and participation

5. To identify and approach corporate prospects, securing financial contributions and pinpointing suitable funding initiatives, calls for proposals, etc

6. To identify and secure grant funding from local and international foundations and taking advantage of NCF’s international partners

7. To be creative in seeking new fundraising opportunities

8. To provide excellent partnership and stakeholder care to ensure long term commitment to NCF, including suitable recognition to sponsors and other stakeholders

9. To communicate strategy across fundraising and other staff and volunteers,engaging all in the delivery of activities

10. To work with other team and staff members to design, print and distribute marketing materials

11. To work across the organization with volunteers and staff in membership and fundraising to deliver a range of activities

12. To ensure the timely and effective marketing of all membership and fundraising activities to maximize participation using a variety of channels

13. To work with colleagues to ensure that fundraising is acknowledged as an integral part of service delivery

14. To monitor progress against budget and reforecast income and expenditure as required

15. To line manage and review the performance and development of the departmental staff, including drawing up their work plans and appraisals

16. To assist in the recruitment and supervision of volunteers and interns, working in close collaboration with the Director General and other staff

17. To ensure that the NCF website information relating to membership and fundraising is up to date

18. To contribute to the NCF’s Annual Reports, Magazines and other publications on issues relating but not limited to membership and fundraising

19. To maintain NCF’s Organisation Calendar for annual activities, meetings, etc

20. To prepare periodic Membership & Fundraising reports for Trustees, NEC and its Sub-committees and the Director General as required and necessary

21. To carry out other duties as determined by the Director General


Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must possess B.Sc or HND with a minimum of 14 years’ relevant experience in marketing; fundraising and membership administration. Master’s Degree or Professional Membership is an added advantage.
