A new initiative to stimulate interest and generate positive responses towards nature conservation issues through the use of photography has been born.
Tagged “The Urban Jungle”, the online photography competition is the first National Photography contest of its kind in Nigeria being organized by the foremost nature conservation organization, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) with the support of popular mall, SPAR.
The initiative is embracing the technological age and effectiveness of social media hence, the competition is entirely run on the Facebook platform - https://www.facebook.com/urbanjunglenigeria
According to the organizer, the competition is meant to engage as many members of the general public and create an opportunity for the appreciation of Nigeria’s natural environment and raw beauty.
The online photo contests which started on May 1, is expected to continue till the end of November 2014.
"Photos of the month will be announced on the 1st of every month. Top 7 pictures with most "like" will receive prizes each month. The winning entries will be determined through the number of “likes” from members of the public on the dedicated Facebook page. In November, the top ten finalists will be invited to attend the Annual NCF Dinner Dance & Awards where the grand prize winner will be announced" said the organiser.
This is a very unique initiative to engage Nigerian youths to make use of their time on social media for things that are meaningful, positive and rewarding while supporting the nature. We thank Spar Nigeria for providing the prizes for all the potential winners of the photo competition.
